If you have Microsoft Office installed on your computer then you already have the next tool in our Tech Tools Series – Microsoft OneNote. I’ve been using OneNote for years and it really packs in a lot of features not found in any other Microsoft Office application.

You may be thinking, I already have Notepad or Microsoft Word on my computer, why would I use OneNote? For starters it auto-saves. You read that right AUTO-SAVES. You can quickly jot down notes and never have to worry about “did I hit save”. It will be there.

It can help you get organized; OneNote is named as such because that’s what it is, a giant notepad. Think back to those notepads you had in school with different sections, that’s what OneNote lets you do, create different tabs which are called sections. For example you can have one for Personal, one for Work, and if you’re anything like me, one just for Recipes! Then within that section, you can have unlimited pages, and each page can have unlimited content.

What makes OneNote great is that it’s user friendly and integrates with your other Office apps seamlessly. You can insert Excel and Word files for easy access, in addition to embedding worksheets from Excel or printouts from a word doc.

The integration doesn’t stop there, OneNote really shines with Outlook. You can take notes create and manage Outlook tasks in OneNote and see them in Outlook.

You can also use OneNote across devices –when you do this anything you add on to OneNote on your laptop can be synced with the OneNote on your phone, and even on your tablet. You can also set OneNote Up to share with friends and family - they only need access to the web to access.
